Facilities Management

David Bess

  • Assistant Vice President of Planning and Construction, and University Architect

David joined the Baylor University Facilities Management team in August 2024. Over the last 15 years, he's served higher education as an Architect of Record, a Campus Architect for Auburn University and a Facilities Division Regional Director for the Alabama Community College System. During this time, he enjoyed blending his passion of architecture, planning and problem solving to help meet the needs of university strategic planning efforts and facilities management programs across the state of Alabama.

He leads a talented planning and construction team at Baylor with the understanding that the strongest College and University initiatives are planned, designed, and constructed within a facilities framework consisting of guidelines, processes, standards, but, above all, people. With that knowledge, he strives to thoroughly engage and understand the needs of all stakeholders involved with his team’s projects.

David is a registered architect with a Bachelor of Architecture and a Masters of Community Planning from Auburn University. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and is an APPA Certified Educational Facilities Professional. In previous years, he served as Auburn University’s Administrative and Professional Assembly’s Chair-elect and At-Large representative for university staff. While living in Auburn, he served as Chairman of the City of Auburn’s Historic Preservation Commission, served as a licensed foster parent for Alabama Baptist Children's Homes, and founded East Alabama’s first youth rugby program.

David and his wife, Joshlyn, have three sons, Cayden, Jay and Jaxon.
